American Bulldog Registration Cost
ABRA registration fees, what each covers, and what you receive.
ABRA registration is $20 per dog and $20 per puppy for litter registration. There is no separate conversion fee. When a breeder registers a litter and assigns puppies to their buyers, each new owner inherits the registration that was paid at litter time. Kennel registration is $240 per year and is the starting point for breeders who want a permanent prefix attached to every dog they produce.
The fee structure has stayed flat for over a decade. ABRA is not a commercial operation -- it is the official registry for the American Bulldog breed, run by breeders who have been in the breed since 2005.

Kennel Registration vs. Individual Dog Registration
These are two separate things. You do not need kennel registration to register a dog with ABRA -- you can register an individual dog for $20 without having a kennel prefix. Kennel registration is for breeders who want their kennel name permanently attached to the dogs they produce.
When individual registration is the right choice
- You own an American Bulldog and want it in the official ABRA archive
- You purchased a dog with papers from another registry and want ABRA registration
- You are registering a dog you received as a pet, not as a breeding animal
- You have an older or rescued American Bulldog that was never registered and you want it on the permanent ABRA record
Bought a puppy from an ABRA breeder? You do not need to register it again. Your breeder assigns the puppy to your email and the registration travels into your name at no extra cost.
When kennel registration is the right choice
- You breed American Bulldogs and want your kennel name on every dog you produce
- You want a listing in the ABRA breeder directory
- You want ABBreederPro on pedigreedatabase.ca, which includes a public kennel profile page and the ability to list stud dogs, litters, and classifieds
- You plan to pursue ABRA Verified Breeder status (kennel registration is required)
Kennel prefixes are permanent. Once ABRA assigns your prefix, it stays on every dog you register -- even if a dog is later sold and the buyer changes ownership. The registered name structure is: KennelPrefix DogName @ NewOwnerKennel. The new owner adds their kennel name as a suffix, but the breeder's prefix never changes.
What You Get for $20
A $20 ABRA dog registration includes:
- Official ABRA registration certificate -- printable from the ABRA member dashboard in multiple formats
- Permanent archive entry at pedigreedatabase.ca -- the dog's profile, photo, pedigree, and health records are searchable in the public American Bulldog database
- ABRA registration number -- the unique identifier that travels with the dog for life
- 3-generation pedigree printout -- available in standard or circular format
- 5-generation pedigree printout -- the extended pedigree going back to the foundational dogs in the breed
- COI (coefficient of inbreeding) calculation -- automatically calculated across six generations for every registered dog
- Eligibility for Blue Ribbon designation -- if the dog's breeding pair both meet the health testing standard, the litter can be registered as Blue Ribbon
How ABRA Compares to Other American Bulldog Registries
There are four registries that specifically register the American Bulldog as a recognized breed: ABRA, NKC, UKC, and ABA. Each has a different structure, different focus, and different fees.
ABRA is the only registry built specifically around the American Bulldog archive -- the pedigree database at pedigreedatabase.ca that contains over 43,000 dogs going back to the foundational animals John D. Johnson and Alan Scott used to rebuild the breed after World War II. Registration with ABRA connects your dog to that historical record.
ABRA registration is accepted for transfer to NKC and UKC. Dogs registered with ABRA can be dual-registered or transferred to other registries if you need access to shows or programs those registries run. See our full comparison at ABRA vs Other Registries.
Frequently Asked Questions
Individual dog registration and per-puppy litter registration are both $20. Kennel registration is $240 per year. There is no separate conversion fee. Registration travels with the puppy from breeder to buyer once the litter is paid.
You receive an official ABRA registration certificate, a permanent archive entry at pedigreedatabase.ca, an ABRA registration number, and access to print 3-generation and 5-generation pedigrees from the ABRA dashboard. The dog's COI is automatically calculated and displayed in the archive.
No. You can register an individual dog for $20 without a kennel prefix. Kennel registration is for breeders who want a permanent kennel name attached to the dogs they produce and who want a listing in the ABRA breeder directory.
Yes. Both the sire and dam must be ABRA-registered before a litter can be registered. If the sire is from another recognized registry (NKC, UKC, ABA), you can register him with ABRA first using his existing papers, then register the litter. ABRA charges $20 to register a dog from another recognized registry.
Yes. ABRA registration is accepted for transfer to NKC and UKC. Dogs registered with ABRA can be dual-registered or transferred to those registries subject to their own transfer requirements. ABRA is one of four registries that recognize the American Bulldog as a distinct breed.
Litter registration is instant. The breeder registers the litter from their own ABRA breeder dashboard and every puppy is issued an ABRA registration number as soon as payment completes, so papers can be printed the same day. Registering a single adult dog also issues the number immediately, but the registrar reviews that submission before the dog appears in the public archive, usually within one business day.
