American Bulldog Breeders in Australia

The American Bulldog Registry and Archives (ABRA) has registered American Bulldogs in Australia alongside North America, Europe, and Australasia since 1998. Most ABRA-registered kennels in Australia are in Queensland (25), followed by Victoria (13) and New South Wales (8). Every kennel listed below has chosen to register with the breed-specific ABRA registry, has working pedigrees on file at pedigreedatabase.ca, and operates under ABRA's naming policy and breed standards.

Verified Breeder kennels (gold ribbon) have been manually reviewed by ABRA, are active Breeder Pro members, register their litters with ABRA, and complete the Blue Ribbon health testing required to wear the badge. Active Breeder kennels (green ribbon) have registered at least one litter with ABRA in the past 24 months. Look for those two signals first if you are buying a puppy.

Before contacting any breeder, ask for the ABRA registration numbers of both parents, written results of NCL, ICH, and hip testing, and a copy of their puppy contract. A breeder who welcomes those questions is a breeder worth talking to. See the full buyer's guide for what to verify before you commit.

Is the American Bulldog a Restricted Breed in Australia?

No. The American Bulldog is not on Australia's prohibited import list. The Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956 ban five breeds from import: the Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Japanese Tosa, American Pit Bull Terrier (or Pit Bull Terrier), and Perro de Presa Canario. Each state sets its own restricted dog rules, enforced through local councils.

If a council officer questions your dog's breed, the ABRA registration certificate and the pedigree on file at pedigreedatabase.ca show the dog's recorded American Bulldog ancestry.

How to Check an Australian Breeder's ABRA Registration

Every kennel above shows its ABRA number on the card. Ask the breeder for the ABRA registration numbers of both parents of the litter, then look each dog up on pedigreedatabase.ca, where ABRA pedigrees are published. Registered dogs appear with their sire, dam and recorded ancestry.

If a breeder cannot give you a registration number, the litter is not ABRA registered. Kennels marked Verified Breeder have also been reviewed by ABRA and completed Blue Ribbon health testing.
