American Bulldog Breeders in New Zealand

The American Bulldog Registry and Archives (ABRA) has registered American Bulldogs in New Zealand (NZ) alongside North America, Europe, and Australasia since 1998. Every kennel listed below has chosen to register with the breed-specific ABRA registry, has working pedigrees on file at pedigreedatabase.ca, and operates under ABRA's naming policy and breed standards.

Verified Breeder kennels (gold ribbon) have been manually reviewed by ABRA, are active Breeder Pro members, register their litters with ABRA, and complete the Blue Ribbon health testing required to wear the badge. Active Breeder kennels (green ribbon) have registered at least one litter with ABRA in the past 24 months. Look for those two signals first if you are buying a puppy.

Before contacting any breeder, ask for the ABRA registration numbers of both parents, written results of NCL, ICH, and hip testing, and a copy of their puppy contract. Knowing Which Type of American Bulldog You Are Buying

Ask a kennel which type it breeds before you ask anything else. ABRA registers three American Bulldog types and they are not interchangeable. The Classic (Johnson) type is the heavier dog, with substantial bone, a broader head and a shorter muzzle; males typically weigh 90 to 120 lbs. The Performance (Scott) type is leaner and longer-legged with a longer muzzle; males typically weigh 70 to 100 lbs. The Hybrid type carries both lines in its pedigree and sits between the two.

Type decides what the dog asks of you: the daily exercise it needs, how it handles a hot summer, the size it finishes at.
